Social Circle Ace Archery Grand Opening

This past Friday was the Grand Opening of Social Circle Ace Archery in Social Circle, GA. The archery department is run by Steve Pittman who is the former owner of 12 Point Archery in Covington. Ace has had a great sporting goods department and a good firearms selection for quite a while, and now they are taking on the archery world. They are carrying Hoyt, Bowtech, Mathews and PSE bows, as well as most of the top accessories. Their prices are great and Steve is a top-notch bow technician.

Travis "T-Bone" Turner from Realtree and the Bone Collector made an appearance, as well as Terry Rohm from Tink's. I was able to get T-Bone to sign my Hoyt CRX. T was as down to earth as you can get, and treated everybody there like they were the hunting celebrity. T-Bone and Steve are lifelong friends and Steve actually convinced T-Bone to get his first bow. In T-Bone's words, "Steve created this monster."

I also had a chance to meet Big John Chandler from Georgia Archery. I discovered his website a few weeks ago, and put a link to it under my "Friends." Big John does a great job covering Archery shoots and events around the state of Georgia. He talked about some of the plans he has to grow his site and I'm excited to see how it turns out. He'll be posting a video of his coverage of the event soon.

There was quite a turnout for the grand opening, including some local news sources. Hopefully word will get out about this great shop and business will continue to grow. If you live or travel through Central Georgia, be sure to stop by Social Circle Ace Archery and give Steve a shout.

I had just got out of the truck and started to get my gear together when I heard the bugle of a bull elk on the ridge behind me.  "He's right there!" I whispered to my dad as I hurriedly threw on my pack and grabbed my bow. Gear Review - Bowtech Insanity CPX

A while back I traded my Hoyt Maxxis for a 2012 Bowtech Insanity CPX. After setting up the new bow with my trusty Spot Hogg sight, QAD rest and Doinker stabilizer, I took it out to a 3D range for a test drive. It didn’t take long to realize that it’s a shooter. My first bow was a Hoyt ViperTec, a 2004 model. I spent countless hours shooting that thing and it served very well as an introductory tool to the wonderful world of archery. From that first bow, I was a Hoyt “fan boy.” To me, Hoyt bows just felt right, and I saw no reason to change. I shot a few other bows, but none of them impressed me enough to leave my beloved Hoyts. Hoyts aren’t the fastest, but I grouped pretty good, and took a few animals and a 3D trophy plaque with a Hoyt in hand. Quail Hunting at Buckeyes Plantation

The weather here in Georgia, and the rest of the country for that matter, has been downright nice this year.  It's been unseasonably warm, and forecasters always predict a miserable summer after such a pleasant winter.  According to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) January 2012 was the fourth warmest January on record in the United States.  In addition, several states have had very little snowfall, and this threatens them with a dry Summer.  Nevertheless, getting out in the outdoors is a lot more pleasant when the temps are this comfortable.  Today I went on my first ever Quail Hunt. Along with my friends Jon Gissendaner and Mark Jeffries, and a friend of Mark's called "Paw Pat," I hunted quail and chukkar at Buckeyes Plantation in Jersey, GA.
